americanflag  Joseph Raymond “Ray” Hampson, Jr., of St. Charles, Mo., died on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at the age of 86.  Dear husband of the late Marjorie J. (Martin) Hampson, loving father of William, Rochester, N.Y., Richard (Lynda), Clinton, Conn., and Todd (Jeanne), St. Charles, Mo. Beloved grandfather of Deborah (David) Moore, Brandon, Jessica, Maria, Megan, Rayann and Emily Hampson, dear uncle, cousin, and friend.

Ray was born January 25, 1927 in Pittsfield, Mass., to the late Joseph R. Hampson, Sr., and Clara (Browne) Hampson. He was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth B. Gillan and niece, Carol Andresen. He graduated in 1944 from Pittsfield High School, attended Deerfield Academy in Deerfield, Mass., then served as seaman first class in the U.S. Navy. After his honorable discharge, Ray earned a bachelor of arts degree from Amherst College in Amherst, Mass. and a bachelor of architecture from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, N.Y. He pursued his career as an architectural engineer in Rochester, N.Y., where he married and raised his family. In 1978, the Hampson family moved to St. Louis, where Ray continued his architectural career at various firms including HBE Corporation, HOK, William B. Ittner, Inc., and NewGround. He specialized in masonry and was a member of the American Institute of Architects. Ray’s hobbies involved genealogy, and following current events and all sports, especially St. Louis Blues hockey, Cardinals baseball, and St. Louis Rams football.

The family will receive friends at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, (St. Charles) Thursday, Feb. 21 at 6:30 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 7:00 p.m. The funeral and burial will be held at Christ Episcopal Church in Pittsford, N.Y., at a later date.
